Calamari mediocre, all rings, no actual baby squid, which makes me suspicious we were eating some packaged thing. Had veal in an apricot brandy cream sauce which was to die for. However my fault for not ordering the side of vegetables as I ordered the side of pasta and it came with a tomato sauce. Totally clashed with the lovely pear sauce on the veal. By 9 p.m. (on a Friday) the restaurant was empty except for us even though they didn't close until 10. At that point the waitress kept checking on us literally every 2 minutes and we felt like we were being rushed to get out of there. I probably won't go back as there are many Italian restaurants in the city much better for about the same price.
Il Forno in Airdrie is one of the finest Italian restaurants you'll ever experience. You'll feel like you're in Italy once you take the stairs up to the exquisite meal that awaits you. Owner Sal Mona will escort you to your table and superb service is the order of the evening. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu; it's all superbly prepared by Sal's lovely wife. This is not your typical production pasta house. Add the accordionist, a very talented guy, and you'd swear you were eating in Venice. Occasionally, Sal will serenade you as well which is another welcoming touch, and he'll always come around to see how you're enjoying your dinner. Trust me, one visit and you'll be talking about when you're going back. Many thumbs up!!
Its a great place. Never really thought I would get to eat authentic Italian food here in Calgary. My kids loved it too. The staff is very friendly.
